Felix is back home! Miguel and Manolo worked hard to get his room nice and comfy to accommodate his needs. He will now catch up on all the TV he has missed :) We are hoping the smell of his Mom's home cooking will wake him up quickly! We are thankful and blessed he is finally home (Gretchen). Felix arrived today and he is all set in his old room. He came along with a bunch of medical supplies and tons of instructions from the doctors and nurses. He is in good hands.......
6/16 Home:
We have spend a lot of time getting medical supplies and other stuff for Felix. It will take a while to learn the "nursing" ropes... Every moment that goes by is something new for us and for him.
6/17 Home:
Being a hospital nurse must be a pretty tough job! Pretending to be one at home is even tougher.... The one that came to visit Felix was none of that. She was an "agency nurse", Her look was not like the ones at the hospital, she wore make up and and a fancy hairdo..... The very first thing out of her mouth was: " I am here just to make sure that the patient is in a safe environment, to take vitals signs and to answer questions". In other words, " I am not here to do my job........." so, we did all the nursing chores ourselves. The therapist will visit tomorrow, I hope that he doesn't come with the same attitude as the nurse. We are still learning the ropes. I will let you know tomorrow when he can have visitors. Felix is doing fine, he gets a lot of love. La pagina de español ya esta al dia.

Felix seems to be a lot more comfortable at home, we are with him 24/7. If you would like to come and visit him, feel free to do so. You can come anytime, just remember that he is at my parent's house and by 8:00 PM they are exhausted and ready to go to bed.

I'd like to say "thank you" to some friends who have come and visit Felix. The physical therapy team will come 3 times a week for the next 4 weeks, the nurses will come 2 times a week. Felix's BD is Saturday, we will have a small family reunion to celebrate it.

After a couple of good weeks here at home, Felix had a set back. He suffered a seizure and had to be taken to the ER at St. Christus. Today, he is back at home and doing better. Yesterday event was very scary . We had to call 911, Felix was transported inmediately to the nearest hospital. There, he had several blood tests and a cat-scan done. Everything turned out to be in order. Felix will go back to Ben Taub for a check up.
7/2 Home:
Felix has developed another medical problem today. He has been passing blood in his urine. We are still trying to determine the reason for this. I will inform you later on.
7/3,4,5,6 Home:
Felix has become stable once again. The bleeding was caused by a pull of his catheter. It probably happened during his transportation to or from the ER. We are still very concerned about the possibility of another seizure, so we are pulling 24/7 in his room.

Felix continues to be in a stable condition. We got him a wheel chair and we'll try to get him out of bed as much as possible. It has been 4 month since the accident.

Felix continues with his recovery process. We visited his doctor’s office last week. We rented a handicap van, we put him in his wheelchair and off we went. It was quite an experience! We had to learn how to use all the van’s gadgets, then we had to practice how to set and secure the wheelchair inside the van. The ride went pretty smooth, we were really concerned for a couple of days, but it turned out to be a good trip and learning experience for all of us. We are doing it all over again next week because he is scheduled for a CAT scan and blood work. Felix remains in stable condition.
7/19-29 Home:
We want to thank everybody who has come and visit with Felix! We are preparing to make several changes here at home. We are moving Felix to a bigger room; close to the living room and the kitchen. This change will allow us to move him and the wheelchair without difficulites. He will be closer to where all the action is. Felix is doing good. He is scheduled for a CAT scan and doctor's office visit in a couple of weeks. Please feel free to come and visit. Everybody is welcome! If you are coming let us know. Call Mom or Dad at 281-392-2854 or email me. Thanks!

It has been a pretty busy week for Felix. Tuesday, he went back to Ben Taub (outpatient clinic) for a regular check-up. Of course, the doctors saw him for 3 minutes and were not resourceful to us, since they had no idea of his history or present conditions. We get more information from his private MD than from those guys at the clinic. Felix is schedule for a CAT scan tomorrow. It is a complicated process to get him to these different locations. Next week he will visit again his private MD. Felix is doing well phyiscally. TIRR has contacted us for his evaluation in the near future. Thanks again to all his friends who stop by and call or email us to find out about his condition.

We got results from Felix's CAT scan. The doctors say that there will be positive recovery but it will take some time. We'll we 've known that for a while. Felix is doing good. Thanks to all the visitors!!! I believe that we are going for another check-up this week and we have started talking to TIRR (Rehab Center). I will inform you of those welcoming news as soon as we know somethings. Thanks again!

It has been a long time since the last time I wrote to you about Felix. It has been pretty much the same in the last month. Here is what is new: Felix is visited weekly by a physical therapist, an occupational therapist and a nurse. He has routine visits to his PCP and is in good condition. On the downside, he has had a throat and UTI infections. Not so bad, but enough to keep each one of us pretty worried. We continue giving 100%. If the weather ever cooperates (too hot!) we will take him outside so he can have a little sun. Thanks to all friends and relatives who continue coming home to see him. God bless you all.

Wow! it has been a long time since the last update. I apologize. Felix continues on path to a long recovery. Due to insurance changes, therapist and nurses come and go. Insurance does not cover long time care the way we would want to. They assign health care providers to work in time periods. Sometimes 2 months, 1 month and so on. We end up a getting a new person all the time. Christmas is coming up pretty fast. We are planning to have a low profile celebration this year. Thanks to all the friends who come by the house to see Felix! Thanks for all your calls and prayers. Will try to update sooner. Promise.
The following update comes from Miguel:
Friends I'd like to tell you that Felix is doing alright, his physical theraphy is helping him a lot. Now, he can bring his arm up when I ask him to do it ( well for those who dont know, he has been doing the same thing with his head for quite some time ) I feel that he is more alert. He follows me when I walk around the room, he also grabs my arms when I exercise his . Felix seems to enjoy when papi ( our dad ) shaves him, he is now awake almost the whole day, so we turn the tv on, and play vh1 classic ( you know 70's, 80's and 90's ) fo him. Well, Manolo is coming back from Spain Saturday and I promise to update Felix's page soon. thanks for visiting, calling and asking about his progress.
